The Offspring – Days Go By

With The Offspring’s ninth (!!!) studio album “Days Go By,” the band decided to experiment with different kinds of musical styles. There’s a bit of pop (“Cruising California (Bumpin’ In My Trunk), there’s the Offspring’s classic sound in the song “Days Go By” and there’s some reggae thrown in the mix. Being able to experiment with new sounds is a goal of so many artists that it has become an expected move. Sometime this is pulled off seemingly effortlessly, but with the Offspring, it comes off confusing. The usual Offspring rough, dirty sound is there, but it’s very produced and the mix with other genres comes out… well, confusing.

The saving graces on this album are “I Wanna Secret Family (With You)” and “Dividing By Zero” if you’re looking for something more recognizable as the Offspring.

Frontman Dexter Holland told Rolling Stone: “I always felt like we would be bored if we had a similar style from record to record…. We’ve got to mix it up just to keep it entertaining for ourselves.”

So, that’s what they did.
