The Unravelling – “Revolt”

Something about “Canadian rock” fills me with both fear and disdain (re: Nickelback). However, The Unravelling is a band where those words are fortunately not synonymous with the sound. Think along the lines of Nine Inch Nails, heavy and progressive rock. “Revolt” offers a rich new song. There are lyrics you’ll want tattooed on your chest and guitar rhythms you’ll want to learn. Basically, it’s just a song you’ll be ready to rock out to almost instantly.

“Revolt” is a slower song that allows you to dive into the sounds. Distorted guitars carry the verses, while occasional solos allow the guitar tones to ride clear and high above the bass and driving, heavy, thick drums.

Lyrically, the chorus is the most telling about this song: Revolt is the kindling that must burn your mind /The Queen will flee the hive. It’s not just about a revolt. It’s about taking what yours and forcing the oppressor (whether that’s a person, a government, an illness – that’s up to you) to not only leave, but flee. Run for your life. Not only are we able to relate to this, but it could be a call to action. Sick of something? Get rid of it. You don’t have to take anyone’s shit and it’s time to do something about that.
